The long-term strategic journey of the STEP’s PLWD Project continues to impact policy makers, national/international organizations, and supporters across the nation.
Learning the art of effective participation in GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day, Little by Little, and Giving Tuesday events of 2022 enabled us to recognize the critical importance of being on such a global crowd funding platform.
Our November 29, 2022, Giving Tuesday Program in Lagos city, was a huge success and were able to donate 6 wheelchairs, 10 crutches, and 7 white cane to our 2nd Batch PLWD Project participants. The event of this year opened doors of opportunities to receive requests for scholarships and educational assistance from targeted population – adolescents/young adults.
In the year, 2022, we participated in designing and planning a two -day workshops in collaboration with strategic partners -Center for Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (CAPWD) & James Osagie & Co- Audit Firm on, “NON-GOVERNMENTAL & CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZTIONS: BUILDING A CULTURE OF ACCOUNTABILITY, TRUST, AND INTEGRITY, as a way of inculcating the habit and culture of auditing for transparency and integrity in among CSOs, especially those with missions to serve the persons with disabilities. The workshop is planned to hold in the middle of 2023.
Following the growing tractions of PLWD Project, our organization have been invited to nominate one of the key Staff on STEP-PWLD Project for sponsorship to attend the 2023 Sport for Community: Sport Mentoring Program, a five-week immersive mentoring program that supports policy goal of promoting human rights and removing barriers around the world so that people with disabilities enjoy dignity and inclusion.
For the first time, the statistical reality of over 31 million persons living with disabilities in Nigeria is beginning to resonate with policy makers and beginning to change the narrative of systemic inequality and exclusion of the persons living with disabilities. We see that the 2023 provides opportunities and bright prospects for the STEP’s PLWD Project to initiate activities that would attract more sustainable supports from individual organizations and government agencies in its long-term journey.
In preparation for the journey into the future, the GIEVA Research & Development Team including key PLWD Project leaders attended a free 3-Day Training workshop: TAILORED RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. The workshop not only enabled us to appreciate existing training resources, we also learned how to negotiate with our financial institutions to become our corporate supporters to support the CAUSE.
We continue to appreciate the GlobalGiving Organization for enabling uson this platform to support this worthy Cause. We are excitedly looking forward to a deeper relationship in 2023.
