Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria

By Daniel Newton Obaka | Project Team Leader

Educate and Empower 400 PLWD as Leaders in Nigeria.

We never imagined that the long-term strategic journey of the STEP’s PLWD Project is going to become a transformative platform for the one 31 million persons living with disabilities in Nigeria. We are increasingly becoming excited and glad that our research to discover the critical and neglected niche in the persons living with disabilities in Nigeria is yielding the expected results through your empathic and generous supports.

In one year of being listed as one of the GlobalGiving Organization Partners to support the worthy Cause begins the journey of mobilizing, educating, and empowering 400 adolescents/young adults PLWD as leaders. The journey has:

  • Inspired mobilization of local supports for the pressing needs of sustainable rehabilitation Centers throughout the nation.
  • GIEVA Organization has initiated the creation of platforms to establish mobile prosthetic limb fitting workshops in Nigeria.

One of the first batch participants in the PLWD Project is now our star inspiration that reminds us that, “together we can do anything to bring about social change for all, irrespective of our physical disabilities”.

We wish to inform you that immediately she became a first batch participant, she excitedly volunteered to become an advocate for the PLWD long-term project. She volunteered to mobilize, mentor, and support PLWD long-term project’s para-sport related activities as a tool to motivate PLWD adolescents/young adults.

Her active role and participation at the ECOSOC YOUTH FORUM - YOUTH 2030 Economic and Social Council Youth Forum "COVID-19 recovery: Youth taking action for a sustainable future”19-20 April 2022, has ignited the need to initiate the setting up of the Give Back Mechanism Scholarship Scheme as an equal and inclusive scholarship program for highly motivated adolescents/young adults PLWD in senior secondary schools in Nigeria going forward.

Your ever constant empathic supports of this long-term project have opened the door of opportunities to provide service to PLWD in Nigeria who are suffering for lack of leadership in a society where there is no defined policy of rehabilitation for PWD in health, education, welfare, and rights of protection. We will always remember your support as harbinger for sustainability.

We at GIEVA send our sincere gratitude and profound appreciations for ever believing in us and supporting this long-term project.

Following the growing impact of the PLWD project, we were invited to participate in the limb fitting program workshop. Here, over 50 participants among which were some of our “Educate and Empower PLWD Leaders in Nigeria’s” participants.

Our continued participation in the GlobalGiving organization’s frequent educative webinars continue to enrich our understanding on how to engage with growing empathic-spirited supporters globally. Our recent participation in July Bonus Day Fundraising program enables us to reach new generous donors.
