Together, let's educate 700 girls - we're so close
By Tara Dawood | Project Leader
As we have raised $5000 and ensured 400 girls in need have been able to stay in school. All thanks to you.
Now, we are striving for our next milestone - $7000 - to ensure 700 girls are able to stay in school for 1 semester.
As such a big milestone has been reached, we as a charity wanted to review why we are doing this and make sure our work is fully aligned with our intention.
Zakat is the name of what a Muslim returns out of his or her wealth to the neediest of Muslims for the sake of ALLAH. Its called "Zakaat" because the word is from "Zakaa"" which means to increase, purify and Muslim believe that by donating this money, their wealth will increase and will be purified and Educate a Girl Zakaat is a special project by Educate a Girl which mainly focuses on the tuition fee of young girls. With these funds, we do not provide any education ourself but fund and "rescue" girls who are unable to afford school by paying their tuition.
This is a very important need and how vulnerable the girls and their families feel when they can't afford tuition is something we can't fully express or convey to you. This project is not about helping girls be educated despite cultural opposition. This money is for girls who want to be educated, whose families want them to be educated, but simply cannot due to money. There is no more nobler use of your funds, in our humble opinion.
Educate a Girl Zakaat is for young girls age 4-16 to help them stay in their schools so they could get proper education which further will help them in achieving their dreams.
Girls who are from underserved, lower and middle class backgrounds, lack access to affordable, quality education. Some girls are often unable to continue or afford their studies due to loss of their homes from poverty, terrorism and communal feuds. Some fathers who have lost their jobs or businesses and/or have limited funds, will likely educate only the sons.
Thank you all for educating girls with your zakaat.
To date, we have educated 400 girls in Pakistan, and with the help of all 27 donors including you, we have raised $5,150 on GlobalGiving.
We have witnessed the impact on each girl's life. Take little Ayesha (name changed as per GG policy). Ayesha has a stutter and while she's a good student, she feels very insecure. Her teachers try their best to encourage her but she is not confident in communicating what she thinks. Her Educate a Girl zakaat scholarship paid for her school tuition fees enabling her to know that she has a secure place in school, not dependent on her family's failing financial situation. This security blanket has given her more comfort that any soft words by caring teachers. Thank you! She still has her stutter but every day strives to communicate what she wants to say.
So, as 2018 ends. Why not end the year or begin the New Year on the magical note of transforming another life. Educate a girl or two today. And, if you can't right now then please donate $10. If each of the 27 donors donated $25, we would raise $675, which is the education of 27 girls for a semester!!! That's twenty seven lives changing, just by donating $25 today. Please also spread the word and consider Educate a Girl zakaat for your entire zakaat donation for this year and the next. Yes, you can make a difference!
As the world is changing and everything is becoming more virtual, same is happening with education. People are learning more and more online as its more easy and fun for them. They don’t have to worry about not having enough time to attend regular classes or not having proper ways to travel to learn. They want to learn and they could do it whenever and wherever they want, with the ease of their homes or in extra time from their offices.
As we have a mission to educate every girl globally, its important to keep up with the technology and new trends as well. Because we are working towards a better future, its important to acknowledge what the future actually is and that’s why we partnered with Facebook’s Internet.org’s Freebasics platform and creating 1000 free online modules for girls to be able to learn and get educated wherever they are.
As we mentioned in our last report we already started working towards our module and our initial modules were up on freebasics in more than 5 different languages, we are so excited to update all of you that we have uploaded 100 modules on freebasics which are available for over 1 billion people and thousands of them are regularly reading these modules and learning from them.
We are so happy and excited about the feedback that we are getting about our modules and just wanted to say thanks to all our wonderful donors who are helping us in our mission and motivating us by showing that there are many people out there who are just like us and actually care about girls education.
We are also planning to enter another city for our live training and will update all of our donors as soon as we are done with the planning phase.
