Thank you all for educating girls with your zakaat.
To date, we have educated girls in Pakistan, and with the help of all 29 donors including you, we have raised $5,283 on GlobalGiving.
We have witnessed the impact on each girl's life. Take little Abida (name changed as per GG policy). Abida is very shy and while she's a good student, she does not speak up in class. Her teachers try their best to encourage her but she simply would not speak when called upon. Her Educate a Girl scholarship required her to speak in front of class in order to pass, regardless of how intimidating she found it. At first. It took coaxing and coaching til she spoke, but once she spoke, she wouldn't talk. She had a lot to say.
So, as 2019 ends. Why not end the year or begin the New Year on the magical note of transforming another life. Educate a girl or two today. And, if you can't right now then please donate $10. If each of the 29 Donors donated $29, we would raise $841, which is the education of more than 70 girls for a semester!!! That's seventy lives changing, just by donating $29 today. Please also spread the word and consider Educate a Girl zakaat for your entire zakaat donation for this year and the next. Yes, you can make a difference!
Yes, there are many girls who because of safety and culture are prevented from going to school. However, there are other girls who have always gone to school but are now not able to, because their parents cannot afford the fees. This usually happens overnight. It's shock. Trauma.
Educate a Girl Zakaat is for young girls age 4-16 to help them stay in their schools so they could get proper education which further will help them in achieving their dreams.
Meet Jehanara. She's 5. She has two older sisters and loves going to school. She has loads of friends and is her Urdu teacher's favourite student. She feels special and enjoys learning and being part of the community. When their father lost his job, he couldn't pay the school fees so all three girls were no longer allowed to attend class. She misses her friends, her teachers, the learning, but most of all being part of a community. She is too little to have career plans, but she knows how to read and write and likes giving short speeches in class when asked to speak on a topic. Jehanara likes being spontaneous and speaking off the top of her head. It finds magical. She couldn't wait to get back to school and now because of the Educate a Girl Zakaat fund she can.
Every time you donate to this cause, you are helping a girl stay in school. Perhaps she will do a trade, maybe she will start a business, maybe she won't even work but she will be educated. And, maybe, like Jehanara, she might be starting a journey to a dream that she hadn't dared dream before. All because of you.

We have been meeting with and taking feedback from girls who have been educated through this program.
Meet Aliya. She is 9 and has a missing right front tooth, giving her a goofy smile and making her beautiful, big brown eyes seem almost enormous in her face. Her complexion is like soft mocha, but her voice is strong and firm as she shares her dreams.
"I want to become a doctor!"
"A doctor," we ask. "Are you sure. You are just 6. You may change your mind."
"I won't change my mind," she replies and then looks down to complete the old, beaten up jigsaw puzzle she is trying to put together.
"Why do you want to become a doctor?"
"I want to help people." Her words are simple and straightforward, but her big eyes share a story of childhood pain that she is not ready to put into words.

All because of you.

As we have raised $5000 and ensured 400 girls in need have been able to stay in school. All thanks to you.
Now, we are striving for our next milestone - $7000 - to ensure 700 girls are able to stay in school for 1 semester.
As such a big milestone has been reached, we as a charity wanted to review why we are doing this and make sure our work is fully aligned with our intention.
Zakat is the name of what a Muslim returns out of his or her wealth to the neediest of Muslims for the sake of ALLAH. Its called "Zakaat" because the word is from "Zakaa"" which means to increase, purify and Muslim believe that by donating this money, their wealth will increase and will be purified and Educate a Girl Zakaat is a special project by Educate a Girl which mainly focuses on the tuition fee of young girls. With these funds, we do not provide any education ourself but fund and "rescue" girls who are unable to afford school by paying their tuition.
This is a very important need and how vulnerable the girls and their families feel when they can't afford tuition is something we can't fully express or convey to you. This project is not about helping girls be educated despite cultural opposition. This money is for girls who want to be educated, whose families want them to be educated, but simply cannot due to money. There is no more nobler use of your funds, in our humble opinion.

Girls who are from underserved, lower and middle class backgrounds, lack access to affordable, quality education. Some girls are often unable to continue or afford their studies due to loss of their homes from poverty, terrorism and communal feuds. Some fathers who have lost their jobs or businesses and/or have limited funds, will likely educate only the sons.
