"TO BE INSPIRED IS GREAT BUT TO INSPIRE IS INCREDIBLE"
Chimezie is an Educate a Girl winner in Nigeria. When we asked her about her experience of the training and if this training helped her in anyway, she said that this course inspired her to improve the wellbeing of humankind.
To explain this further she said,
“I remember on the second day of our #EAGNigeria training, our trainer asked us a simple question; What is more important: To be happy or to be satisfied?
Just like every other girl in that training hall, the first thing that came in my mind was the sentence that we always use, it is important to be happy but when the trainer explained us the importance of this question, that completely changed the view of life for me.
To explain us the difference between being happy and being satisfied she said, imagine if your happiness is the result of someone’s suffering (which is possible), then imagine you aren’t happy but at least you were never a reason for someone’s sufferings, that’s when you will be satisfied. That’s when we got our answers that to be satisfied is actually more important than to be happy.
Although there were many other things that we learned in this course but I will always remember this question because this was the moment that explained me the importance of life, and made me realize that why its being said that the meaning of life is to shine a light, where there is no light. I can say this was definitely a life changing moment for me.
Today, I can say that I am taking the responsibility of shining that light, as much as I could and for that I initiated a programme called, Nwuliareads Initiative, which discover innovative solutions to tackle the issue of literacy (reading) culture deficiency in kids, teens and young people and has a Vision to be a leading educational platform in building an army of readers and thinkers with strong leadership potentials. NwuliaReads is mixture of Igbo and English. Nwulia is Igbo, a coined form of "nulia" which is a verb to "Anuli" (happiness), with the “n” hyphened on top, but for easy pronunciation, i had to add the w to the n and make it distinct. I got it from the Igbo name, Kanyinulia, which is “Let us rejoice” So to the brand name NwuliaReads, simply means “Read in Happiness and Fun”. Because in my Educate a Girl training, i learnt that literacy is a bridge from misery to hope and I want to give hope to these young kids because that gives me satisfaction and also makes me happy.”
There are many other Educate a Girl winners in Nigeria like Chimezie, who got inspired with this training and now are inspiring others, and it’s all because of the wonderful donors, like you, who made this happen. So on behalf of everyone connected with Educate a Girl, we would like to thank you!
We have many other deserving girls across Nigeria on our waitlist to attend #EAGNigeria. Donate today, please spread the word, and together, we can transform lives.
