The project will support 30 economically disadvantaged girls in senior secondary schools and post-secondary with tuition assistance and essential learning materials to improve access, retention and educational progression. Through "My Education, My Future," an additional 500 girls and young women will benefit from mentorship, life skills, academic and career guidance, leadership development and safeguarding support to strengthen their confidence, resilience and future prospects.
Girls in Homa Bay County, Kenya, face financial, social and educational barriers that threaten school attendance, retention and progression. EEO's 2026 assessment found that 37.8% of those attending school had considered dropping out, citing school fees and teenage pregnancy among the reasons. Additionally, 55.9% needed fee assistance, 43.1% learning materials, and 70% of out-of-school wished to return to education. Limited access to mentorship further hinders girls' educational progress.
The project will address these challenges through an integrated approach combining education sponsorship and empowerment. It will provide 30 economically disadvantaged girls in senior secondary schools and technical and vocational colleges with tuition assistance and essential learning materials to improve access, attendance and retention. Additionally, through "My Education, My Future," 500 girls and girls will benefit from mentorship, life-skills development, academic and career guidance.
The project will improve girls' educational attainment, reduce school discontinuation and expand opportunities for further education, employment and economic independence. Through mentorship and leadership development, girls will gain confidence, life skills and decision-making abilities. In the long term, the initiative will help break cycles of poverty, advance gender equality and nurture empowered young women who contribute positively to their families and communities.
