Help Educate 400 Students in Guyana Progress Report March 2018
Project Completed! It is with great pleasure that I write to you to inform you of the successful completion of our project.
We just returned from our week-long trip to Guyana where we successfully completed our project to renovate the library and donate books to Supply Primary School. The renovation of the library required us to replace the broken windows to stop rain and moisture from getting into the room. We repaired the shelves used for the books and repainted them. We also repainted the room to bright and child friendly hue of blue. We then cleaned out the room and repacked the shelves with books donated from Blossoms. To ensure that the books would be well received by the students, we were very deliberate in our book selection.
Prior to our renovations, the room was not able to be used by the students or faculty due to the decayed nature. The goal of the renovation was to create a friendly space that could be used by students to read and study.
Similarly, prior to the books donated from Blossoms of Guyana, the school had no books that students could read for fun. Having the new books will give students an opportunity to improve their reading and comprehension skills as well improve the overall school performance.
Past performance at other schools with which we have worked, has shown that after we have donated books, there has been an increase in their interest in reading and the amount of reading. Having reading books available has also shown to help improve student’s reading abilities which resulting in improvements in all other subjects.
Please view the attached before and after videos and pictures of the reading room. We will continue to support the school to by donating a computer and projector so that the room can be used to enhance the students learning.
Both the principal, Mr. Frazer and the students were very excited to have a new space to be able to read and learn.
