Project Report | May 25, 2016
My Education, My Future

By Lilian Juma | Project Team

We appreciate your continued support for the project. Because of your support, students in Ruaraka informal schools received a better education. All the six schools that your funds have helped provide extra teachers reported that the volunteer teachers are working hard and easing the workload. This project positively impacts on the education of over 280 needy students and thus; my education, my future.

During term 1 period, 4 volunteer teachers and 7 mentors were engaged in the six partner schools with the aim of teaching and guiding students towards improved academic standards and constructive life. Teaching program took place every day from Monday to Friday for the 4 months period and the mentorship program placed volunteer mentors once a week to hold sessions on different topics every week.

Currently, the schools are in the second term and we have engaged two more volunteer teachers in the program. We are happy the project is a success as more children are becoming more literate. This meets our goal of educating slum kids to finish school with a high level of literacy.

Lastly, our assessment on reading materials in the schools revealed that the schools are ill-equipped with learning materials. Our call for support is, therefore, to help these 6 non-formal schools acquire reading and learning materials enough for the 280 students who are the direct beneficiaries of the project. We do appreciate your commitment and continued support to this project.
