At Kalyet Afya Foundation, we believe that empowering young people with accurate knowledge and practical life skills is one of the most effective ways to build healthier, safer, and more resilient communities. Through our Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) program, we are currently working with 11schools across Molo Sub-County, equipping adolescents with age-appropriate information on sexual and reproductive health, life skills, gender equality, menstrual health management, prevention of teenage pregnancy, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and the promotion of positive health-seeking behaviors. Beyond classroom learning, the program creates safe and supportive spaces where learners can openly discuss challenges, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and make informed decisions that positively shape their future.
To ensure sustainability, we are training Peer Learner Educators within participating schools to serve as champions of SRHR. These peer educators are equipped with the knowledge, communication, and facilitation skills needed to lead peer-to-peer learning sessions, provide accurate information, and promote healthy behaviors among their fellow students even beyond the project period. This approach strengthens ownership within schools, fosters youth leadership, and ensures that the impact of the program continues long after external support ends.
As we witness the positive transformation among learners, we recognize that many more schools still lack access to these critical interventions. We are therefore seeking partnerships and support to expand our reach, recruit more schools, strengthen our capacity, and ensure that every adolescent has the opportunity to access life-changing SRHR education. Together, we can empower the next generation with the knowledge, confidence, and skills they need to thrive and contribute to healthier and more resilient communities.
