Our Health Peer Education Works!

By Sarah Moraa | Project Officer

Over the years, our major focus has been fostering an environment where young people feel safe and confident discussing crucial sexual and reproductive health topics. Our sessions are not just about sharing information; they are designed to empower learners to ask questions, understand their bodies, and make informed, healthy choices. We've used interactive methods, small group discussions, and the personal stories of peer educators to break down shyness and stigma, helping learners own these conversations with maturity and self-assurance. This boost in confidence is key to long-term positive change.

This newfound openness is already translating into remarkable results on the ground. For instance, at Kapsorok Primary School, where we held several intensive sessions, the Guidance and Counselling teacher recently reported a powerful success story: the school has had no reported teen pregnancies this year! The teacher shared how much the confidence of the learners has grown:

"Learners now come to us immediately when they have a question or a concern. The sessions gave them the right vocabulary and courage to talk about these things openly. It's truly amazing—this year has been the first time in memory we haven't had to deal with a teen pregnancy case."

This is a testament to the learners' engagement and the effectiveness of providing comprehensive, accessible information. Each student we educate becomes a strong advocate for their own well-being and a positive influence among their peers. We are so proud of the community's commitment to protecting the health and future of its youth.
