"Now I know it's not something to laugh about. It's something natural, and we need to support girls." These words from Gideon (name changed) were a breakthrough moment at Sachangwan Primary School in Molo Sub-County during a recent menstrual health session by Kalyet Afya Foundation. His voice was strong as he spoke to his classmates, showing a big change from the uncomfortable silence that usually happened when this topic came up.
In the past, menstruation was seen as a "girls-only" topic. Boys stayed quiet or made jokes, while girls suffered in silence, often missing school because of shame and lack of resources. But this time, something different happened. Boys leaned in, asked questions, and listened. They showed respect and understanding. That moment was powerful because it showed the truth: when boys understand menstrual health, they become more than observers; they become part of the solution. They help break down the shame and create supportive spaces for their female classmates.
Thanks to the donations that made this session possible, more than 60 pupils, both girls and boys, benefited from this training. They learned how to manage menstrual hygiene, communicate openly, and support one another at school and home.
We are proud of this progress because it's more than just education; it's real change happening one classroom at a time. At Kalyet Afya Foundation, we believe that menstrual health is not just for girls; it's for the whole community. Boys who understand become supporters. Teachers who know the facts create welcoming classrooms. And because of your support, we're building a new generation that is informed, caring, and confident enough to end the shame and silence.
