Every month we send out our newsletter that helps you keep up with our work at African Angels.  The link to our February 2021 newsletter is below.

Our art programme has been supported by Julia and Isabella in the United States for some years now where they sell art from African Angels, to US supporters, and we buy more art materials with the funds raised.  Isabella has also just started an online tutoring platform called https://www.tutorcor.org and she has offered to connect some of our learners with their tutors, for extra one on one tuition - the wonders of the internet.

We are very grateful for Julia and Isabella's sustained support of our visual arts programme.  This week we took delivery of our term 1 art supplies.  Look at the smiles on the kids' faces (masks removed for pictures only).

Thank you for being part of our global supporter community like Isabella and Julia.  We are privileged to do the work we do every day changing the futures of the children of Chintsa, and we couldn't do it without you.

With gratitude,

Lou

We are on a mission to see 400 people across the world setup a recurring monthly donation to support the education of the children who attend African Angels. Recurring monthly donations, like yours, have become the lifeblood of our organisation, and we would like to take advantage of the upcoming GlobalGiving Little by Little Campaign to encourage others to setup their own recurring giving - no matter how small.

Can you help us?

We would love you to share, in one sentence, why you chose to support our work every month.

We would also like to be able to include a picture of you too.

Like Annika ...
"When I visited African Angels and experienced the encouraging and friendly learning environment, I immediately knew that this was a very special place. It is an absolute pleasure for me to contribute to their effort in promoting long-lasting social change in South Africa."

Your recurring donation to us is so important. Telling us why is just as important.

Thank you for taking time to help grow our monthly donor base, so we can help the children of Chintsa have very different futures. We hope to hear from you soon.

You can reply to this email, or email me directly loukbillett@gmail.com

With gratitude,
Lou

Book Dash is an amazing organisation in South Africa who gathers South Africa authors to write and illustrate children's story books.  The books are designed to appeal to their readers, and so have wonderfully varied characters of all colours, reflecting our Rainbow Nation in South Africa.  Their vision is for each child in South Africa to own 100 books before they turn 5.

African Angels has been so fortunate to receive many Book Dash books for our children and they have, in turn, been taken home, and widely shared with others.  Since they began, Book Dash has distributed over 1 million story books to children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Sharon our Principal visited Ikhwezilomso Creche last Friday. Some of you might remember Lindiwe, our founding Grade R teacher's aide who worked at African Angels from the start of the school in 2012.  Lindiwe started her own creche in her home in 2016, as she saw the dire need for Early Childhood Development in her community.  In 2019, we 'transferred' Lindiwe to work as the lead teacher in her own creche, ensuring her oldest children (the 4-5 year group) were school ready.  Lindiwe comes to African Angels once a week to exchange resources, do photocopying and reconnect with the African Angels teaching team.  Once a term Sharon visits the creche, in a support and mentoring role.

In 2021 Lindiwe's salary has been supported by a German national who visited Ikhwezilomso Creche when he visited South Africa.  We are grateful for his support of Lindiwe, and her passion.

Book Dash sent a wonderful donation to African Angels for the start of 2021, and Sharon took a selection for the children at Ikhwezilomso to take home.  As you can see the children were delighted!

If you would like more information about Book Dash and their work, click on the link below.

(As a side note, face masks were only removed for the pictures.)

Thank you for supporting African Angels, and, in turn, Lindiwe and Ikhwezilomso Creche.

AFRICAN ANGELS NEWSLETTER
September 2020

When School broke up for the end of term holidays on 18 March 2020 we had no idea that a week later President Ramaphosa would declare a State of Disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lock the country down. The last few months have seen a complete change in the education of our African Angels.

In this newsletter we will share our Principal’s perspective on education under these circumstances and demonstrate our focus on the welfare of not only our learners and their families but also the wider Chintsa community.

Click here to read the full newsletter from our Principal, Sharon.

Thank you for being an African Angels supporter.

African Angels is delighted to let you know that two (yes two!) of our Grade seven boys have been accepted into the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Scholarship Programme from 2021 for high school at Hudson Park High in East London, South Africa.

Ayola and Lizalise are the first of our learners to be awarded this prestigious scholarship In the midst of such disarray with the covid19 pandemic, we are so pleased that two of our graduating 2020 class have secured such a fine opportunity. The scholarship programme includes school and boarding fees, uniform, mentoring support and holiday camps, to develop the boys' entrepreneurial talents. Both Lizalise and Ayola have been part of our boys mentoring group over the past eighteen months, and have benefitted from regular, weekly mentoring.

#returningtoschool

We are delighted that the Minister of Education has announced 1 June for schools to restart. Our teaching and support team are preparing the school classrooms and property for a phased return of our learners next week.

#globalsupportersraise $1045USD

We are so grateful to one of our past volunteer families who sought donations from their friends and family, in a personally worded email and Facebook appeal, which saw $1045 raised for African Angels. With our exchange rate favoring hard currency, the amount raised will provide nutritious meals for our thirty two hostel girls for four months this year. Our fantastic US fundraisers also setup a recurring monthly donation via GlobalGiving (links below) which will be matched by GlobalGiving. It certainly does take a village to educate our Angels.

#regularmonthlydonors

Thank you to those individuals and families who support us via a small monthly donation. With the covid19 pandemic we are acutely aware of the financial stress people are experiencing. We have worked out that if four hundred people across the globe setup a recurring monthly donation of around $40 (or any amount actually) this will cover our monthly salaries. Salaries are our biggest expense, and the most important, as we strive to provide the best education for our Angels. To date we are 18% to our target of 400 monthly donors. Please consider helping us in any way you can, every month.

Please click on the links below to set up a small monthly recurring donation.

Thank you for being part of our Angels family and joining us in celebrating yet another African Angels success story. #strongertogether #chintsapride #notjustanothercharity @ Cintsa, Eastern Cape, South Africa
