The CW school was created for these special girls and now with our own primary school completed, we will be able to serve many more girls well into the future.
There is a lot of excitement lately at the school. On Sept 19, CW celebrated 27 years dedicated to raising the quality of life for the children of Cusco, Peru. We have overcome difficult obstacles during those years and today we have our own school where our students are thriving with education - our dream come true.View history at
The excitement continues as our first 6th grade class prepares to graduate from their beloved CW School in December 2013. It is bittersweet for them and for all the staff and the other students to see them go, but they are well prepared to move on to public high school after 8 years of CW special support and education.
Chicuchas Wasi primary school for Girls was created for girls denied an education because they were born poor girls. We receive girls 4 years old and older into one of two levels of kindergarten, whereupon completion they enter 1st grade and continue through 6th grade. The girl's parents sign a promise document that they will help their daughters to continue through public high school and CW will continue to see that they do and will act as a mentor for the girls.
When these girls arrive at 4 years of age, they are silent, afraid and many speak little or no Spanish (Quechua is their mother tongue.) With the support and encouragement of the older students and teachers they learn Spanish, and slowly begin to feel safe in the CW environment among other girls who live in their reality. Their reality is difficult and many of our girls have unseen wounds that only time and love can heal. The bonding of the girls is a big part of their healing process. Building confidence and self-esteem is another important part. The most important thing at CW is the love freely given by all to all, often felt by our girls for the first time. Parents who themselves were never shown love do not know how to give it, or receive it.
