The Thanksgiving holiday in the US for me is not about history, but about the blessings in my life, my family, and friends and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. I see the changes in the faces of our students, bright eyes all lit up today. Twenty-seven years ago the opportunity seized me and I found my true vocation quite by accident, and now I continue to serve our girls -for me it is a labor of love.
The Holiday Season has always filled me with the spirit of the season and a desire to do something - give back to others for my blessings. Family and friends would noisily spill into my modest dining room and squeeze around the table with laughter. This was the true spirit of the season for me; the sharing with others whatever we had; the joy of sharing a meal we all helped to prepare. The children added their excitement to the season in the simplest of ways, a home drawn picture by a 4 year old for someone he loved. Next the tree would be lit and dangling many old memories from long ago. Santa left something for everyone and maybe several for the children.
That said you might be feeling a bit like I do this week. The madness of the shopping frenzy today with more Black Friday & Cyber Monday talk than ever before is too much. There is need all around us, in the news, on TV, and before our eyes. Children are neglected and raising themselves. So the UN initiated a GivingTuesday movement to put giving back into the season. Please spread the word.
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” –Winston Churchill
What are you thankful for? Please ask your friends and family this question. How will you give back this holiday season beginning on Giving Tuesday? CW is a partner in this movement. Please Give to educate girls on Dec. 3, 2013 Giving Tuesday. Here is the link to us:
For most indigenous girls from poor uneducated mothers, the reality is that they will inherit their mother's life, poor and illiterate!
We appreciate your generosity and thank you for gifting education to our girls. You understand this is their key out of poverty and oppression and is something you care about.
Please remember our girls for you holiday giving and tax benefit for 2013.
