Little Rock is an Inclusive Early Childhood Development Center that provides a great start at growth and learning to disadvantaged and special needs children living in urban slums. We make it possible for children to reach physical, emotional and cognitive development milestones and gain school ready skills. Our focus is mainly on reaching children who are not reached through ECD services by creating a friendly learning environment. 120 of our current students suffer from a disability.
The current Kenyan education system does not provide adequate support for children suffering from disabilities. In classrooms where there are 90 students and only one teacher, these students do not receive the one-on-one support they require to succeed. The disabled children located in the urban slum areas are often forgotten about as it is almost impossible to get them the help they need in the public education system.
Little Rock focuses mainly on reaching the children who are not reached through ECD services by creating a welcoming environment for children of all backgrounds and ability levels. We exist to ensure that every child, no matter their status, has a great start at growth and learning and continue to get an education that equips them for like. Our ECD center provides full service occupational therapy, nutritional support and teaches valuable life skills to all of our students.
By giving these children a chance to get an education and learn life skills such as cooking and cleaning, we are giving them a chance to be self sufficient in their future endeavours.
