Container Gardening
Container Gardening

Hi to all our wonderful supporters!

Yesterday was "Do It Day" at Indlovu

The event was a huge successes. Many Volunteers came out to show their support and we got the children from the youth centre involved so that they could a) learn how to plant, b) take care of the gardens and c) harvest the fruits of their labour. Volunteers brought bags of compost, potting soil as well as bags of manure and hand tools to work with.
As you know the soil at Indlovu is just sand so we are initiating container gardening. This will be the best thing to do. The day was amazing and we have now started to implement one of our many ideas for Indlovu.
Items used as containers:

Baskets
Suitcases
Crates
Buckets
Waste bins
Tyres
Pallets (can be stood up and wired together to form a BIG box)
Baby baths
5 litre plastic water bottles
Sacks
Bathtubs
Laundry baskets
Old vibracrete walling is very useful for making large beds

Food planted:

Spinach/swiss chard
cabbage
Brinjals
green peppers
chillies
tomatoes
potatoes (bring all the ones that have sprouted in your veggie rack)
sweet potatoes
granadilla
rosemary
sage
celery
parsley
marigolds
nasturtiums
Butternut
pumpkin
runner beans
carrots
lettuce

Thank you again for your support.
