Care for the Elderly
We care for the elderly women, visit them whenever there is food we give posho and beans, cassava flour and other needs as demanded.
Our Blandina is becoming weak every day when there are funds we give treatment and make sure we get food. She can eat due to her complications. One of our elderly died on the 28/04/2019.
Janet is also sick in Mulago and walks by support of stick on both sides of the legs.
Care for OVC / Child headed
We make sure our children go to school and provide them with the necessary materials to aid proper learning and these materials were given in early January this year.
These are books, sets, pencils, rulers, exercise books
Our children are at home for holidays of term 1
We make sure child headed family children are safe and healthy, we provide them with food at school and at home, those who are on ARV’s we make sure they attend their clinic and take drugs in time.
HIV/AIDS – long term survival skills
Counseling is always done by our counselors trained in long term survival skills. These skills have made our women, active strong and very healthy as they practice them, they have proper diet e.g. protective, proteins, for balance diet.
Women are aware of themselves and out of stress and stigma they live positively.
PLW get attacks, we counsel and guide them, we visit them and give them courage.
Drama
We are proud of our drama group because it is our sensitization tool through songs plays in drama this has up lifted care and encourage our communities, this drama group in a positive living group. Very open and active group no more stigma in our people.
Agriculture
These four group practice agriculture. Likely grow beans, maize, sweet potatoes, Sukuma, ground nuts, sim sim (sesame), cassava, green vegetables we are in our first season but there has been a long drought, the rains have just started thus May and people are busy planting but this late planting has caused some members a problem and have eaten seeds for planting we pray rains continue otherwise people will be very much disappointed
Goat rearing – local goat rearing at least in every home of a member there local goats’ rearing at times members sell to solve their problems in their home, like feeding, buying clothes, treatment when sick and other needs as required.
Piggery - Members rear pigs lent a lower scale as their death is always a problem but a few members practice it.
Heifer - Members got this project from NAADS program but had to rear and very complicated most members have lost their animals. Many members fear to pick on these projects.
Home visit
We visit the HIV/AIDS positive members to counsel and also make sure they get their drugs and take them in time we also visit child headed families to monitor their needs, the positive ones to take their drugs and get them in time.
We visit our old people to encourage them, take them food and chart with them.
Hair dressing
Done mostly by RWEN (Rural Women’s Empowerment Network) the mother group. Some trained members have their saloons and train others in hair dressing.
Day care centre
Day care centre is mostly practiced by Rwen old women who are around the centre get break and lunch together with the children.
These people feed on beans and posho and porridge
Developments
Our women are active and can plan a balanced diet for their families.
The community people have come to admire our activities and in most cases they have made us to be their consultants in HIV/AIDs in long term survival skills.
All school age going go to school and we have provided them with scholastic materials.
Challenges
One of our elderly women in Rwen group died last month, may her soul rest in peace.
Blandina has become very weak and sickly ever on treatment.
Food for children for term 2 is not available for that, we don’t know how we shall feed the children.
Suggestions
If possible let there be way of buying food for OVC for term 2 which begins at the end of May on 28th May, 2019 if funds are realized.
Conclusion
On behalf of women and children and on my own behalf, I am very grateful on at all assistance received through the River fund.
