Economic Empowerment for Underprivileged Kenyans

Overview

• We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every donor who has supported Fauza Foundation through GlobalGiving. Your generosity is helping transform lives by equipping underprivileged Kenyans with practical skills, entrepreneurial knowledge, and opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods.
• During this reporting period, we successfully supported 15 beneficiaries through a series of activities designed to empower them economically. The project began with a practical soap-making training held on 25 April 2026, where KSh 5,000 was used to purchase training materials, soap-making ingredients, and facilitate the training logistics. Participants learned the complete soap production process, including the safe handling of raw materials, quality control, packaging, and hygiene standards.
• To ensure that these practical skills could translate into sustainable sources of income, Fauza Foundation conducted an Entrepreneurship and Business Development Training on 20 June 2026. With an investment of KSh 5,000, beneficiaries were trained in business planning, costing and pricing, bookkeeping, marketing, customer service, and financial management. This training equipped participants with the knowledge needed to transform their newly acquired skills into viable small businesses.
• Following the training sessions, the project moved into the implementation phase. An additional KSh 9,730 was invested in purchasing production materials and supplies, enabling participants to begin practical soap production and apply the knowledge they had gained during the training.

Impact

• Thanks to your generous support, 15 beneficiaries have taken meaningful steps toward economic independence.
• Participants have gained practical soap-making skills that enable them to produce quality liquid soap for household use and commercial sale. Beyond learning a vocational skill, they now understand the fundamentals of starting and managing a small enterprise, including pricing their products, managing finances, keeping simple business records, and serving customers effectively.
• The project has progressed beyond classroom learning into practical implementation, with beneficiaries now producing soap using the materials provided through the project. This hands-on experience has strengthened their confidence and demonstrated that they can create products capable of generating income for themselves and their families.
• Perhaps most importantly, the project has restored hope among participants. Many beneficiaries now see entrepreneurship as a realistic pathway toward self-reliance. Rather than depending on external support, they are developing the skills and confidence needed to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute positively to their communities.

Challenges

• Although we are encouraged by the progress made so far, several challenges remain.
• The current funding has enabled us to support 15 beneficiaries, but many more vulnerable individuals within the community continue to express interest in participating in the programme. Expanding our reach will require additional resources to provide training, production materials, and ongoing mentorship.
• In addition, beneficiaries are still in the early stages of establishing their enterprises. Continued support in areas such as product quality improvement, branding, packaging, market access, and business mentorship will be critical in helping them develop sustainable and profitable businesses.
• Despite these challenges, the commitment, enthusiasm, and determination shown by the participants continue to inspire us and reinforce the value of this initiative.
