As you already know from our last report, the Ecological Ovens project has been successfully completed. Some days ago we received one last big donation. We are very pleased to announce that, thanks to your generosity, the project is now completely funded!

Without your support this achievement wouldn’t be possible. For this reason we want to thank you all for your fundamental support!

We hope you will continue your generous commitment with us, by supporting our projects, in particular the one we recently started in Eritrea, A sheep for you.

We achieved many important goals, but together we can do even more!

Today, we have an important announcement for you!

Two weeks ago, our staff went on a monitoring trip to Eritrea, where they visited the ‘Ecological Ovens’ project. They were warmly welcomed by two families, which now have a mogogo oven. The families said the oven literally changed their lives. Actually, they previously had just a fireplace inside their homes, that had really harmful consequences on their respiratory system. Since the mogogo are equipped with a flue to eject the smoke, the quality of their lives has consistently improved. It was so fulfilling to hear that the families were very happy to participate in the building of their ovens and now they are able to help other families to build their own. Moreover, the government is going to take over the issue and build new ovens in accordance with the technique we used so far. For these reasons, we are proud to say that our local partner now considers the project self-sustainable and therefore it can be carried out from now on independently, without our financial support.

From now on our focus will be the project ‘A sheep for you’, which consists in the donation of sheep to mothers who live in difficult economic conditions in Eritrean rural villages. This is why we ask you to continue your commitment by supporting the project ‘A sheep for you’.

We are deeply grateful to you all, because your generous contribution made the achievement of this project possible, thus changing the lives of many families. We are sure that together we can do even more!

During the last three months, we managed to raise 600$ to fund the ‘Ecological Ovens’ project, thanks to your support. Through your generous donations we built three more mogogo ovens, for three different families! As always, the beneficiary families took part in the construction. In fact, one of the main goals of the project is to convey the construction techniques to the local community, so that they will be able to build other ovens independently. We can’t be prouder of how this project is going on!

Moreover, at the beginning of February Aleimar’s staff is going on a monitoring trip to Eritrea, where they will visit the ‘Ecological Ovens’ project and talk with the beneficiary families. We are looking forward to sharing the news with you!

Meanwhile, we take this occasion to thank once again you all for your fundamental support, which makes it possible to carry out this project!

We can only thank you for the generosity that you show us every day: in the last three months we have managed to build not one, but two mogogo to other families in difficulty.
It is always an immense joy to see the smile light up on the face of these young mothers who, brick by brick, finally see their new ecological oven finished.

For us it is really important to involve the family in the construction, both because we do not want to replace ourselves in any way, or to spread more and more this technique that, encouraging the release of smoke, prevents numerous respiratory illnesses.
Speaking of diffusion, we can say that the whole country knows the advantages of this new oven and the government itself is foreseeing, among the various actions, the promotion and the concrete realization in the houses of the Eritreans. After the peace accord with Ethiopia, we hope that this commitment will be a further sign of change and improvement, in order to ensure a more positive future for many children who still live in difficult conditions.

There are still many smiles to give away, but together we are sure we can achieve excellent results!

A new mogogo!

Thanks to your precious donations we have built a mogogo for a new family: as you know it is very important for us to ensure the women of many rural villages a safe and healthy environment in which to cook and prepare a meal for their children.

The new ecological oven was built with the help of the beneficiary family and the women of the village who, having learned the technique, will in turn be able to replace the old oven which, having not channeled out and thus trapping the harmful fumes in the home, it was dangerous and harmful to the health of the family.

As a gesture of gratitude and gratitude, the beneficiary family has prepared coffee and engera for all, thus inaugurating the new mogogo.

Our commitment is not stopped here: there are still many families who are forced to live in houses blackened by the fumes of the ovens and that every day they travel long distances to collect wood.

While the conditions of life are precarious, on the other hand the historic peace agreement between the Eritrean President, Isaias Afwerki, and the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, gives hope for a possible improvement. After 20 years of war, which began in 1998 due to some border disputes over the control of the city of Badme, the two countries affirm in a joint declaration: "they will work to embrace political, economic, social, cultural and security cooperation" In addition, "restored links in transport, trade and telecommunications" and "renewed ties and diplomatic activities".

We hope that words really are a turning point for both countries and a first step towards a real improvement!
