Last April, Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. At the time, we had a volunteer on the ground. Fortunately, she and clinic staff were safe, as well as the villagers. However, the clinic itself caved in, destroying medical supplies as well as staff and volunteer possessions. Funds are urgently needed to rebuild the Chanauti clinic and replace equipment and supplies so that we may continue treating patients in need.
The village of Chanauti was leveled in the earthquake. Most people are without homes and there are many injured. The clinic was a place for all people of Chanauti and the surrounding hilltop villagers to come for medical care and now they are without this important center in their community. We have volunteers waiting to work in Nepal to serve the people in this area in the coming months- all that is needed is a space for them to be able to treat patients in need.
By rebuilding the clinic itself and restoring supplies and equipment the people of Chanauti and beyond will have their only medical clinic restored and be able to receive the care they need for chronic as well as acute illnesses. This will allow them to move forward with their lives after this devastating disaster.
MMW provides an education in translation to a local Nepali students as a way of training them for future employment. If they have an interest in Chinese Medicine they are able to apprentice with our volunteers as well. Having a clinic and the necessary supplies helps to continue this mission, providing not only Chanauti, but many nearby villages with life-long, affordable community healthcare.
