The Potomac River Clinic is one of the few diagnostic centers in our region that offers Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing for newborns who referred on their newborn hearing screening. Since our last update, in which we reported a 400% increase in referrals, we have continued to see impressive growth in referrals for ABR testing at our clinic. Unsedated ABRs can take three or more hours per patient and require a minimum of one audiologist. Often two are needed to obtain patient compliance and provide parent counseling. While other local testing locations routinely take 6 to 8 months between an initial call and the testing, PRC averaged just 8 days (down from 10 days in our last update)!
Contributions to our Early Intervention for Underserved Children Project help us to provide this service, and many others, at no out-of-pocket cost to families when the child is uninsured or lacks coverage. Early diagnosis and amplification are critical for positive long-term outcomes, so thank you for helping us to provide this critical early childhood testing and diagnosis.
We are so thankful for your support of our mission!
