Dynamo Camp helps sick children and their families re-gain self-confindence, focusing on their abilities rather than their limits. This is done through the Therapeutic Recreation model. Constantly supervised by medical personnel and qualified staff, children at Dynamo Camp can try several activities of a creative and sport flavour, while in contact with nature. Inclusion and socialization are the main target. All activities and lodging are offered free of charge.
The challenge is to create opportunities for children and families to reach beyond illness and discover joy, confidence and a new world of possibilities, always free of charge. Serious fun can make a real difference in the lives of sick children, also because every child deserves the chance to be "simply a kid".
Accumulating research shows that friendships and social support play an especially important role in the lives of children and adolescents with serious medical illness. By introducing recreational therapy in Italy in 2007, Dynamo Camp set out to help children with serious illnesses get well again and offer them educational and psychological support.
At Dynamo and in the other SeriousFun Camps, children can share unforgettable moments with peers that have gone through similar experiences. By having fun and working as a team, they learn from and lean on each other, thus building on their self-confidence which will support them upon returning home and carrying on with medical treatment. SeriousFun Camps also provide specific programs for parents and healthy siblings, involving the entire family.
