Since our last report, Can'd Aid has shipped out 2.5 truckloads of water to Navajo Nation and the Southwest in response to extreme summer heat and ongoing Covid-19 relief efforts. The first, in March, was funded in part by long-time partner Atlas Copco, and distribution efforts were coordinated with Health and Help Network, McKinley Mutual Aid, who distributes food, water, supplies and other necessities to indigienous elders and their families.
The following two shipments, canned and shipped with help from newest canning partner Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. both in May, one to the Salvation Army in Phoenix, prompted by extreme temperatures and the other to Community Pantry in Gallup, NM.
In a rare celebratory update for Can'd Aid's WATER + RESPONSE program, we are one step closer to a brand new water can design following the CANvas CANpaign design contest. Long-time Can'd Aid supporter, Denver artist, Drew Button*, entered the winning design (featured in photos below).and submitted the following artist statement:
The Koi fish is a symbol for hope & perseverance. They gained their symbolism as they were often found swimming against the current up the Yellow River. I thought it only fitting that such a symbol be sent out by people such as yourselves bringing hope to others who are doing their best to persevere through difficult times. Access to clean drinking water is an important part of both finding hope and swimming against the current. -Drew Button*, CANvas CANpaign Contest WinnerIn June, Can'd Aid celebrated the progress in a CANvas CANpaign Can Design Launch Party with over 100 Can'd Aid supporters and water partners Ball, Oskar Blues Brewery, Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. and more.
We look forward to keeping you updated on our WATER + RESPONSE program in the coming months.
