In response to overwhelming need for drinking water throughout Navajo Nation, Can'd Aid is working to fulfill truckloads of water to the area as quickly as possible. The next shipment will be distributed to the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Whiteriver, Arizona. Within the White Mountain Apache Tribe includes a small community, Seven Mile, where currently COVID-19 cases have spiked to over 200 in the last week. Several other communities are in need as the summer temperatures rise.
There are 10 grocery stores on Navajo land to serve 180,000 people and 1 grocery store on the Hopi land to serve 3,000. With COVID-19's negative ripple effects, necessities such as water, milk, and eggs are nearly impossible to secure. As a result, Navajo Nation continues to struggle to find ways to supply residents with water.
In response to overwhelming outreach and need for more water throughout Navajo Nation, Can'd Aid is working to fulfill truckloads of water to the area as quickly as possible. In partnership with the White Mountain Tribal Fire and Rescue Department and the Grand Canyon Trust, the water will be distributed to families with children, disabled individuals, and seniors in poor health within Seven Mile, AZ.
With summer temperatures rising and COVID-19 cases spiking, there will be the need for additional water shipments to the Navajo Nation region. Can'd Aid will continue to request funding to enable future truckloads of water throughout the summer. Over 1,000 households can be provided with 2 weeks' worth of clean drinking water, per truckload.
