Project Report | Dec 15, 2024
Clean Water Happy Children

By Luisa Paez | Project Leader

International Freedom Council (IFC) is pleased to announce the successful completion of its "Water Plant for Carapita" project, a seven-month initiative that provided clean drinking water to a community of approximately 5,000 individuals in Venezuela. The project involved the installation of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant to address severe contamination of the existing water supply, which posed significant health risks, particularly for children.

Building on this success, the IFC is launching two new projects:

  1. School Water Filtration Systems: This initiative will install water filtration systems in 23 schools serving underprivileged children across the capital, Caracas. This will reduce operating costs for schools, ensure a consistent supply of clean drinking water for students, and promote better health outcomes.
  1. Barquisimeto Water Treatment Plant: The problem of drinking water supply in Barquisimeto, specifically in the municipality of Iribarren, is an emergency that requires a comprehensive and long-term solution. The high contamination of the water, coupled with the area's limited resources, puts the health of the population at serious risk. IFC will work to address this critical need by developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for a state-of-the-art water treatment plant.

Project Outcomes

  • Carapita Water Treatment Plant: The successful installation and commissioning of the water treatment plant in Carapita has provided the community with access to clean drinking water. This is expected to significantly reduce the prevalence of waterborne illnesses and improve the overall health and well-being of residents.
  • School Filtration Systems: The upcoming project will equip 23 schools with water filtration systems, addressing the critical need for clean drinking water in educational institutions. By providing a reliable source of clean water, the project will contribute to a healthier learning environment and reduce the financial burden on schools.
  • Barquisimeto Water Treatment Plant: The upcoming project will give access to clean drinking water, reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases, particularly among children, leading to improved health outcomes for the community.

Next Steps

The IFC will continue to monitor the performance of the water treatment plant in Carapita and provide necessary maintenance and support. The organization will also proceed with the installation of water filtration systems in the 23 identified schools, ensuring proper training and maintenance protocols are in place. Furthermore, IFC will actively engage with relevant stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for the Barquisimeto Water Treatment Plant.

Conclusion

The successful completion of the Carapita water treatment plant and the launch of these two new projects demonstrate the IFC's commitment to providing access to clean water and improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Venezuela. These initiatives represent significant steps towards achieving the "Water for All" vision and promoting sustainable development in the country.
