During the year 2022 we have strived to obtain the resources to bring accessible and safe water to the neediest educational communities in the rural area of Turgua and the suburban area of Mariche, both areas are in the state of Miranda, Venezuela. The inhabitants of both of these areas do not receive any type of water by pipe.
In Venezuela, a recent report by the Complex Humanitarian Emergency Foundation prepared by several NGOs, particularly the “Aguas sin Frontera Foundation” indicates that 82% of Venezuelans do not have a continuous water supply, and the water they receive sporadically is of dubious potability, an issue aggravated by the constant and serious electrical failures, damaging, and considerably affecting the equipment and facilities involved in the entire process.
In rural areas, the abandonment of the systems is very evident, since some 3.5 million inhabitants were safely deprived of water resources, after the National Rural Housing Program was eliminated in 2007.
IFCs project not only brings an immediate solution to the school, it also becomes an important solution for the communities that make life around the school.
In the last quarter of 2022, IFC executed and completed the Water project in a school of Mariche, with a population of 1000 students, this institution had more than 20 years without receiving water supply of any kind. This situation had forced the school authorities to buy weekly truckloads of water at a very high cost to mantein basic higienic conditions.
Since January 2023 they have a deep well that provides 17 liters per second of water becoming a safe, clean and continuous water solution over time. On the other hand, in the next months the school will develop a plan to donate water to the community around it.
The director of the school shares her testimony: "The problem of non existent piped water was present for more than 20 years, I never imagined that a dream of many years would become a reality in such a short time, it is of great satisfaction that today we have this vital liquid for the entire school population. We greatly appreciate the project and the work done by IFC”.
