Like other rural area parts of the province and country, fetching water either for drinking and cleaning is the sole responsibility of women and girls. In same way, women and girls of village Allah Bux, Veerji and Punhoo Khan are responsible to fetch water for daily consumption of the families. The recent flood 2020 has badly affected the economy of rural communities and they could not grow this season crops even. The flood has demolished and damaged their sources of water including Hand Pumps. Even before flood 2020, these village women and girls were fetching water some 500 meter to 1000 meter away from their houses because there is lack of underground sweet drinkable water in the village areas. But after flood 2020, they had only the source of drinking water which was the canal and it was located more than 1500 meters from their houses.
In third week of November 2020, ARTS Foundation installed 5 hand pumps in village Allah Bux, Veerji and Punhoo Khan, Mirprukhas. A total of 713 families will be getting benefit from the installation of 5 hand pumps. The installation of hand pumps will be benefiting in numerous means i.e. less burden on women and girls, increased leisure time for women and girls, improved health and hygiene.
Village Veerji belonging to religious minority as they are tenants who are living without the basic need like water. They could not afford to install pumps themselves to access drinking water and therefore these village communities were helped by ARTS Foundation as generous support being made by the philanthropists under GlobalGiving.
