Since our campaign to Rescue Working Animals in Desperate Need began, your caring donations through GlobalGiving have enabled Animal Aid Abroad’s (AAA) partner group, Friendicoes, to rescue a number of animals in India. Please read their stories below, knowing that your kind support has saved each animal from a dire situation and given them a second chance at life. These stories represent just a few of the many animals who have been rescued this year by AAA’s various partner groups around the world.
1. One pony was rescued by Friendicoes from the Turkman Gate area in Delhi. The pony was elderly and had been abandoned because his owner was impoverished and could no longer afford to keep him. The dedicated team at Friendicoes rescued this pony and took him to their shelter in Gurgaon for working equines. This pony is now living in safety and will remain at the sanctuary for the rest of his life.
2. A former working camel has also been rescued by Friendicoes. Sadly, she too was abandoned because she was elderly and the owner could not afford to feed her. She was found in Badshahpur, Gurgaon, and was suffering from severe mange. The rescue team gently loaded her onto their truck and drove her to Friendicoes’ shelter. She is being treated for mange and the team are discovering she is a sweet, docile camel.
3. Another pony was found abandoned and malnourished in the heart of South Delhi. Unfortunately, poverty once again seemed to be the reason this working equine was left to fend for himself. Friendicoes took the pony to their sanctuary, where he can live out the rest of his days being well cared for. Happily, he is settling well into his new home.
4. In another case, a pony at the Turkman Gate in Delhi was rescued following a road accident. The accident had left the poor pony with a head injury and she was no longer able to work, so the owner willingly surrendered her to Friendicoes. She is now safe at their sanctuary and is slowly recovering from the accident. Thankfully, she can retire for good and will never need to work again.
5. In yet another case of abandonment, a pony was found wandering, disorientated and dehydrated on a busy road in Chattarpur. The pony was extremely hungry and malnourished and there was no owner to be found anywhere. Luckily for this pony, Friendicoes saved her in the nick of time and she is now being well-fed and properly looked after at their sanctuary.
6. The team rescued a mule in May who had also sadly been abandoned by his owner. The mule was found in Okhla near a railway station and had a seriously injured leg. Once again, no owner could be found, so Friendicoes’ hard-working crew transported the mule in their ambulance to the Gurgaon shelter. The mule is now safe and recovering from his leg injury under the loving care of the sanctuary’s staff members.
7. Finally, Friendicoes rescued a pony this year who was found in a residential complex in Gurgaon. Residents awoke to see the pony standing alone in the park and were very concerned. They called Friendicoes, who promptly arrived to collect the pony and take the abandoned fellow back to their sanctuary.
It is thanks to your generous donations through GlobalGiving that these animals have all been rescued from dreadful situations. We are delighted that they have now been saved from lives of hardship and trauma and can live out the remainder of their days under the tender loving care of the Friendicoes team. Due to your compassion, these fortunate animals will now experience nothing other than comfort, safety, nutritious food, friendship, affection and well-earned rest, which is nothing less than they deserve!
The seven animals above are only a fraction of many working equines, camels and bullocks AAA are rescuing on an ongoing basis in conjunction with our global partner groups. Thank you so much again for your incredible support and kindness. We could not continue this crucial rescue program for working animals in need without you.
