Six Equines Rescued With Help from Your Donations

By Renate Homburg | Project Leader

With your incredible support, two of Animal Aid Abroad’s (AAA) partner groups have rescued another six lucky equines.

Thanks to your caring donations through GlobalGiving, these animals were not forgotten or left to die alone. Instead, they are now experiencing freedom from suffering, perhaps for the first time in their lives.

Our partner group in India, Friendicoes, recently saved a donkey and three ponies. Most had been abandoned by their owners and were left to fend for themselves on the streets.

In Zambia, the Zambezi Working Donkey Project (ZWDP) also rescued two donkeys who desperately needed help.

Please read their stories below:

  1. Friendicoes rescued a donkey from Pitampura in Delhi. The donkey had been tied up next to a highway and cruelly left to fend for herself. This vulnerable animal was rescued and taken to Friendicoes’ shelter in Gurgaon.

  2. A pony named Darcy was rescued from Turkman Gate in Delhi. The owner surrendered this animal and he was named by the AAA team who were visiting India at the time.

  3. Another pony was rescued by the Friendicoes team in Gurgaon. The owner had sadly neglected and abandoned her. She is now safe and has been named Rani.

  4. Yet another pony was found abandoned, this time in Jangpura, Delhi. This sweet soul was taken to Friendicoes’ peaceful sanctuary and is now called Pablo.

  5. ZWDP rescued a donkey named Zebra in January. He had a neck wound but his owner initially refused to allow Zebra to receive treatment. With support from another organisation called Zambezi Animal Welfare Services, the police arrived and the owner agreed to hand over Zebra. Zebra will now receive all the treatment and care he needs.

  6. Finally, ZWDP rescued a lost donkey who was wandering near a shopping mall. After receiving a call about this donkey, two team members rushed to the site. The bewildered donkey was calmly led to their sanctuary. Despite some minor wounds, the donkey is going well and has settled in with two other rescued animals in the quarantine paddock.

These animals have finally found safety within our partner sanctuaries and will receive all the nurturing care, nutritious feed, love and attention they deserve. You have given them another chance at life; the chance to know gentleness and peace after so much suffering.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion for working animals and for giving so generously to our campaign. Your wonderful support allows us to continue rescuing as many animals as we possibly can, and to care for them for the remainder of their lives.

Together, we can ensure these special souls are never forgotten or left to suffer alone but are given a life worth living.
