5-months out, CA Wildfire Update

By Miriam Davenport | Vice President

Ducky
Ducky

In the early hours of January 8th, we got a call from our friends at Pasadena Humane Society.

They were running out of space for the pets of Eaton Fire evacuees.

Could spcaLA help?

Because of the support of donors like you, the answer was, and continues to be, yes.

Pets and people arrived at the spcaLA Pet Adoption Center in Los Angeles starting at 8am that morning.

Within hours, the Center filled with dozens of evacuated dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, and birds. We welcomed more animals as the crisis worsened.

To make room for these and other fire-affected pets, we consolidated operations and placed many adoptable pets in temporary foster homes. We geared up our Disaster Animal Response Team (DART)™, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

To date, we have been able to reunite nearly all of the evacuated pets with their people, including the 30-year-old parrot, Ducky, and her cat companion, Nico.

Because of your support, we were able to keep families together in a time of crisis.

Thank you.
