Kalahari, a 3-month-old Border Collie mix, badly fractured her leg while playing. Her owners could not afford her veterinary care, so they surrendered her to spcaLA.
Kalahari suffered a Salter Harris II distal humeral fracture. We sent her to the emergency clinic, where it was likely she would need a complex surgery to realign her fractured left humerus, followed by a lengthy recovery period.
Fortunately for Kalahari, when the surgeon opened the fracture, he concluded realignment was not advised. Rather, she is on kennel rest - living with a foster family who can help restrict her activity while she recovers from surgery and her injury.
Kalahari is one of many shelter pets who've come into spcaLA in need of urgent medical attention due to illness or injury in recent months, whose care is made possible by people like you.
We are optimistic that this little puppy will have a bright future - regaining mobility in her leg after she recovers.
