Forty-seven (47) students from nine primary schools in Dominica and two high schools in Florida, will begin the next chapter of their educational journey with financial support from Dominica America Scholarship & Culture, Inc. (DASCI), following the organization’s 2026 Scholarship Awards Ceremony held virtually on June 27.

DASCI awarded 44 scholarships valued at US$750 (approximately EC$2,000) for students entering secondary school in Dominica and 3 US$1,000 scholarships for students attending college in Florida.

DASCI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization comprised primarily of Dominicans living in Florida who are committed to supporting education and preserving Dominican culture.

This year marks DASCI’s 23rd anniversary. Through membership fundraising and generous donations, particularly from David Shillingford, the Marie Family Dominica Educational Fund and the John and Nancy Donnelly Family Fund, DASCI was able to provide scholarships to deserving students in both Dominica and Florida.

The 2026 awards ceremony also marked DASCI's 23rd year of service and its continued commitment to investing in education as a pathway to opportunity for young people in Dominica and the United States.

The 2026-2027 scholarship recipients from the United States. are from the following schools: St. Lucie West High School and Treasure Coast High School in Florida. The Dominica awardees are from the following primary schools: Berean Academy - three (3), Christian Union - six (6), Convent Prep - twelve (12), Coulibistre - three (3), Ebenezer SDA - five (5), Mahaut Primary - five (5), Massacre Primary - five (5), Pioneer Prep - one (1), and St. Mary’s Primary School - four (4). Names and photos/videos of the students are posted on www.DASCI.org (under scholarship recipients).

School principals play a critical role in identifying and encouraging deserving students to apply. Following the announcement, many principals expressed appreciation for DASCI’s continued investment in the education of Dominican youth.

Many of the principals responded with a resounding “thank you so much for the great news.” Ms. Claire Nola Stedman Principal Mahaut Primary School also had this to say about the scholarship, “We greatly appreciate the support that DASCI continues to provide to Dominican students as they transition to secondary school. This scholarship will undoubtedly assist these students and their families as they prepare for the next stage of their educational journey.”

Ahjani Toussaint, a student from Ebenezer SDA had this to say -“receiving this scholarship means a lot to me and my family. This generous support greatly eases my school expenses, allowing me to continue learning and dedicating myself to my long-term goals”.

Since launching its scholarship program in 2007, DASCI has awarded 232 scholarships valued at more than US$162,950 (EC$442,718), helping students throughout Dominica pursue their educational dreams. The organization remains committed to investing in the next generation of leaders and changemakers.

Keynote speaker Jodie Dublin-Dangleben reinforced this year’s theme. “Innovators, Leaders and Changemakers." She said “Innovators solve problems by creating new ideas, Leaders solve problems by bringing people together, and Changemakers solve problems by taking action and making a difference.”

The DASCI Scholarship Committee will begin the 2027 Scholarship Program in January 2027 by selecting the participating schools. The list of selected schools, scholarship eligibility requirements, and application information will be posted on www.DASCI.org. Scholarship applications will be accepted through May 31, 2027. DASCI Scholarship Program Update

We are excited to share an important update on the progress of the DASCI Scholarship Program!

Over the past several weeks, we officially launched the administration of the scholarships in both Dominica and St. Lucie County. As part of this process, we hosted numerous informational sessions with principals, students, and parents to ensure everyone clearly understood the scholarship requirements, application process, and submission deadlines.

We are pleased to report that, as of this writing, we have received 3 applications from St. Lucie County and 58 applications from Dominica. The response from students and families has been inspiring and demonstrates the growing impact of this program.

Our Scholarship Committee, made up of five dedicated volunteer members from DASCI, is currently reviewing and independently scoring each application. To support a fair and transparent evaluation process, the Committee Chair has created a comprehensive database to capture all individual scores submitted by committee members. Once all evaluations are completed, the scores will be aggregated to produce a final composite score for each student, and applicants will then be ranked accordingly.

Based on our current budget, we anticipate awarding scholarships to 3 students in the United States and 33 students in Dominica. Once the rankings are finalized, the scholarship award line will be drawn at those levels. However, thanks to the tremendous fundraising success achieved last year and funding we received from our annual picnic, our budget may allow us to extend scholarships to an additional 8–10 students who score closely within the ranking range.

We expect to officially announce the scholarship recipients in early June.

We are also excited to announce that our virtual Scholarship Awards Ceremony has already been scheduled for Saturday, June 27th from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM EST via Zoom. Students, parents, principals, friends, and supporters of DASCI will all be invited to celebrate the achievements of our scholarship recipients. Additional event details can be found on the DASCI website under the Events section.

Following the awards ceremony, we will also be sharing a human-interest story featuring our scholarship recipients through Dominica News Online (DNO) to further highlight the impact of this program and the generosity of our supporters.

DASCI Launches 2026 Application Process in Dominica

Every year after the Board identifies the schools that will participate in the scholarship process - a human interst story is published in the local Dominica News (Dominica News On-line-DNO). Press Release for January 2026 is below.

DASCI Launches 2026 Application Cycle for Scholarships Awards to Students in Dominica

Dominica America Scholarship and Culture, Inc. (DASCI) is accepting applications for scholarship

assistance from Primary School graduates in Dominica who will start Secondary School in the

2026-2027 school year. DASCI has selected the following sixteen (16) Primary Schools to

participate in this year’s Scholarship Program: Coulibistrie, Goodwill, Mahaut, Massacre,

Roseau, Salisbury, St.Martin, St.Mary’s, Convent Prep, Berean Christian Academy, Campbell,

Pioneer Prep, Ebenezer SDA, Kelleb Laurent Primary, Western District SDA and Christian Union.

A minimum of thirty (30) scholarships will be awarded to deserving applicants this year.

Applications must be emailed or posted by May 1, 2026.

School Principals play a crucial role in facilitating the application process for their students. For

this reason, Principals of the sixteen (16) named Primary Schools have been notified of this

opportunity for scholarship aid for students transitioning to High School.

Dominica-America Scholarship & Culture, Inc. (DASCI) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization

mostly comprised of Dominicans. The organization has been awarding scholarships to Primary

School graduates in Dominica since 2007 and, to date, has awarded 162 scholarships valued at

US$ 106,950 (EC$288,165). Scholarships are open to students in need of financial assistance

who meet the requirements set out in the application.

“DASCI members and supporters are motivated and committed to continue helping students in

need” said Patricia David, President of DASCI.

Every year, the organization invites students from a select number of Primary Schools to apply.

Different schools are chosen each year so that, over time, all schools will have an opportunity

for their students to participate in the Scholarship Program.
