Dominica Scholarships for Secondary Education

by Dominica America Scholarship & Culture Inc
Dominica Scholarships for Secondary Education

Summary

This project will provide scholarships for 10 high-achieving, low-income students attending secondary school in the Commonwealth of Dominica, covering tuition, registration, uniforms, textbooks, and school supplies. While state secondary schools provide five years of education, students who wish to continue to 12th grade and earn advanced level certification can only attend private urban schools-costs that are far beyond the reach of many families.

Challenge

In the Commonwealth of Dominica, state funded schools provide only five years of education.Students who wish to complete 12th grade and earn advanced-level certification, must attend private secondary schools. The cost of tuition, registration fees, etc., places continued education beyond the reach of many families. When these expenses cannot be met, students are forced to leave school early. This project will benefit 10 academically capable, financially vulnerable students who are at risk.

Solution

Excerpt from two student essays asking impact to them: 1)Receiving the DASCI Scholarship would not only provide much-needed financial support but also serve as a confirmation of my potential. With this assistance, I am confident I can pursue my academic goals and make a meaningful impact in my family and community. 2)I need this scholarship because it would significantly reduce the financial burden of pursuing my education, allowing me to focus fully on my studies and achieve my academic goals.

Long-Term Impact

For nearly two decades, Dominica-America Scholarship & Culture, Inc. (DASCI) has addressed this gap through targeted scholarships. Since 2007, DASCI has awarded 185 scholarships totaling approximately US$126,950, supporting students across Dominica who would otherwise be unable to continue their education. These scholarships consistently cover essential costs that determine whether a student can remain enrolled, and annual awards have increased in response to growing need.
