General Context
North Kivu, a province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is the scene of armed conflicts and natural disasters, including the volcanic eruptions of Nyiragongo, which deeply disrupt the region's socio-economic life. The massive displacement of populations has led to an acute humanitarian crisis, with overcrowded displacement camps and families facing extremely precarious living conditions. The city of Goma, located at the foot of the volcano, is the epicenter of this distress.
In response to this critical situation, the humanitarian organization IHHNL, in partnership with VEFA Foundation, has set up a food distribution program to support displaced families, particularly women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities, who are the most vulnerable.
1. Project Objectives
- Provide food packages to vulnerable populations, primarily internally displaced persons affected by armed conflicts in the North Kivu region.
- Contribute to the social well-being of beneficiaries by providing food support during critical periods.
- Reduce malnutrition in displacement camps and temporarily improve the living conditions of families.
2. Intervention Areas and Beneficiaries
DR Congo - North Kivu - Goma and 225 beneficiairies
3. Content of the Food Packages
Each food package distributed to families will include the following basic items:
- Rice: 12.5 kg
- Oil: 3 liters
- Flour: 25 kg
- Sugar: 1 kg
4. Distribution of Beneficiaries by Categories
- 60% of the beneficiaries will be families displaced due to armed conflicts.
- 20% will be orphans and widows.
- 20% will be people with disabilities or the elderly.
5. Impact of the Activity
The food distributions will ease the daily burden of beneficiary families in extremely precarious situations. The psychological and social impact has been significant, providing respite to those who struggle daily to survive in a context of war and natural disasters.
This initiative will strengthen the resilience of local communities during times of crisis, temporarily improving their food security and fostering a sense of hope.
8. Conclusion
The food distribution project in partnership with GLOBALGIVING will provide a breath of fresh air to 225 vulnerable families in Goma, at the heart of a region marked by war and natural disasters. However, the need remains enormous and requires a continued and increased response.
9.Bugdet
The food distribution project in Goma is currently underway, with the goal of supporting 225 vulnerable families in a region affected by armed conflict and natural disasters. The total budget allocated for the implementation of this project is 10,000 USD.
Current Fundraising Status
To date, a total of 20 USD has been raised as part of the fundraising efforts for this project. While this amount represents a small fraction of the total budget, it marks the beginning of the effort to mobilize the necessary resources.
Projection for 2025
If we manage to reach the full amount of 10,000 USD by 2025, the entire project can be funded. This will ensure the distribution of food packages to 225 vulnerable families in Goma, in line with the objectives set:
- Provide food packages to families displaced by conflict and natural disasters.
- Reduce malnutrition in displacement camps and temporarily improve the living conditions of families.
- Improve food security for the most vulnerable populations.
Achieving the Goal in 2025
Once the full funding of 10,000 USD is reached, it will guarantee that all stages of the project, including preparation, purchasing food supplies, distribution, and monitoring, will be carried out according to plan. With this full funding, we will be able to effectively address the food needs of vulnerable populations in Goma and achieve the project’s objectives, thereby improving food security and the well-being of the beneficiary families.
In conclusion, although the amount raised so far is modest, reaching our financial target in 2025 will ensure the full success of this vital humanitarian project for the displaced population of Goma.
