At Special Olympics CHILE today we need you! We need you to join forces so that in the next Special Olympics World Games Santiago 2027, our country receives 7,000 athletes from all over the world and thus looks like the first country in Latin America that will make history in Inclusion and will host the Olympic Games in 55 years. This event will be a milestone for all of Chile, from sports, from Diversity and Inclusion and from empowerment for all our athletes.
n January of this year, from Senadis, a study was carried out that showed that 17% of the population aged 2 years and above in Chile, has a disability. This corresponds to 3,291,602 people. Of this percentage, 5.9% have mild to moderate disabilities and 11.1% have severe disabilities. Meanwhile, 17.6% of the population aged 18 and over has a disability, that is, 2,703. 893 people. Of this percentage, 6.2% have mild to moderate disabilities and 11.4% have severe disabilities.
Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for people with Intellectual Disabilities (ID). We work in CHile on 4 fundamental pillars: health, sports, diversity and inclusion and education. We provide sports training and competition opportunities in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities. And in this framework we begin the path to the Santiago 2027 World Games.
Through the sporting and inclusive milestone of the Special Olympics Santiago 2027 World Games, we plan to reach the 16 regions of the country, making it possible for more than 20,000 people with ID to participate in our programs. We also believe that this milestone will mark a before and after in terms of Inclusion for all civil society actors throughout the country.
