Project Report | Aug 21, 2026
combination of Life-saving Assistance and Recovery

By Mastora Bakhiet | Executive Director

 Dear Darfur Women Network family,

Greeting,

Subject : Up date -We started Recovery Program

Please See the People Behind the Numbers

To everyone passionate about defending human rights: when you hear the number of people displaced from El Fasher, please do not think only about statistics. Think about the women, children, and families behind those numbers.

For more than two years, civilians in the besieged city endured extreme hunger, thirst, and repeated attacks by the Rapid Support Forces using drones, ground assaults, and heavy military weapons. Survivors have described rape, executions, the hanging of women and children from trees, and civilians being killed while the violence was recorded on video.

Those who survived escaped without evacuation support, protection, guidance, or safe directions from their government or the international community. Families walked at night and hid during the day to avoid being discovered and attacked. Mothers carried hungry and exhausted children while searching for any path to safety.

Those who eventually reached Omdurman arrived with almost nothing. Many are now sheltering in damaged or temporarily abandoned houses belonging to families who also fled the war. They live with the fear that they may be forced to leave at any moment.

Still, they are trying to work.

Women go from door to door asking whether anyone has clothes to wash by hand. Others borrow coffee, tea, sugar, food ingredients, wheelbarrows, or basic tools each morning so they can earn enough to provide even one small meal for their children. They survived genocide, but their struggle to survive continues every day.

They were neglected while trapped inside El Fasher. They must not be neglected again after escaping.

Since 2023, Darfur Women Network has provided life-saving assistance to war-affected families. Today, we are taking the next step by launching a community-led recovery program alongside that emergency assistance.

We are investing in the strength these courageous survivors have already demonstrated. We listen to each family, understand their skills and priorities, and provide tailored support to help them work without beginning every day in debt. Our goal is not only to help families survive today, but also to help them rebuild their livelihoods, dignity, and hope for tomorrow.

We call upon human-rights advocates, organizations, donors, and compassionate individuals to stand with us. Please help us ensure that survivors of El Fasher are not reduced to numbers—and that those who escaped genocide are given a genuine opportunity to recover. Here is the link  http://goto.gg/68632

Life-saving assistance protects people today. Recovery investment helps them rebuild tomorrow.
