To amply the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future, the 33rd International Disability Day was celebrated with a great excitement. We have been celebrating the day every year like an event which also gives an opportunity to unite all the people with disabilities in the Mahadewa municipality of Saptari district. Despite the limited resources, we managed to provide a blanket to twenty-one disabled person who was needed it the most
Over two-hundred people with disability and representative of other organisations attended the celebration event. A sweet and short speeches from the representatives helped to raise awareness and motivated us to do more and better in the years ahead. The chairman and vice-chairman also attended the event to witness the work we have been doing for disabled people in the community.

Namaste and warm greetings,
Visiting families in the villages of Mahadewa Rural Municipality of Saptari district to find out how many disabled people are actually there, in what situation they are living in and telling them about our organisation’s activity is being continued but a little slow due to limited resources. We are meeting more and more disabled person and linking them to our organisation.
In addition, we have been working with the municipality’s vice chair to ensure that every single disabled person will receive the social welfare allowance in the municipality. After the long wait, the chair has taken our request seriously and have appointed a team including of a doctor who will access the condition of disabled people. A message has been spreaded across the municipality and an application is being accepted. We are very pleased with the action and hopeful that a fare judgement will be made. Social welfare allowance alone won’t be sufficient to live a good life but at least it will help to fulfil the most basic necessities.

Namaste and warm greetings,
Since January 2024, we have been visiting families in small villages of Mahadewa Rural Municipality of Saptari district to find out how many disabled people are actually there, in what situation they are living in and telling them about our organisation. We have visited 650 families in three small villages and met 19 people who are disabled as per our definition.
All the 19 disabled person are living in very poor condition and are depending on their relatives. They barely go out of their home as they do not have a suitable transport. Their relatives believe that the disabled person has been cursed and there is nothing we can do to help. We explained to them about major causes of disability and if it gets cured in time and appropriate health care then their life can be better.
We also shared with the families that we have set up an organisation that will work in these villages for the welfare of disabled people, and requested to participate in our coming meetings and gatherings which will provide many helpful information and meet likeminded people.
We will continue to visit more families in the remaining villages to identify disabled person and bring them in to our network. There are fourteen small villages in the Municipality. Please support us to do more in what ever way it is possible.
