More than humanitarian aid: rebuilding lifes

By Donantes Individuales | Fundacion Loyola A.C.

More than humanitarian aid: rebuilding life projects. 2025.

In Mexico, thousands of women are forced to leave their homes due to violence, forced displacement, insecurity, and a lack of decent living conditions. Many face distinct risks during their migration: gender-based violence, discrimination, family separation, economic exclusion, and barriers to accessing protection and their rights. Various studies and organizations have warned about the increase in violence and displacement, which particularly affects women in contexts of forced migration.

Faced with this reality, the Loyola Foundation continues to strengthen the Jesuit Refugee Service Mexico (JRS-Mexico), which provides comprehensive support to displaced women, refugees and applicants for international protection from the various territories of the country where it has a presence, strengthening processes of recovery, integration and autonomy.

The impact of the support in 2025.

During 2025, 4,031 women were supported, representing 63% of the total care provided by JRS Mexico. The women being accompanied come mainly from Latin American countries such as: Ecuador, Nicaragua, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Haití, Honduras and Venezuela. Each of them faces stories marked by forced displacement, violence, persecution, poverty, and the loss of support networks. However, they also represent processes of resilience, reconstruction, and hope.

How does JRS Mexico support displaced women?

From a comprehensive and community-based approach, the Jesuit Refugee Service Mexico provides: Psychosocial care and emotional support; Guidance and legal advice in immigration and refugee processes; Humanitarian support to respond to urgent needs; Safe spaces for listening, integration and community strengthening; Tools for local integration and strengthening their economic and social autonomy.

Working on the ground allows us to respond to the specific needs of each context and to build processes that are close, human, and sustainable.

More than humanitarian aid: rebuilding life projects

Working with women is a priority for the Jesuit Refugee Service Mexico, especially because of the distinct risks they face during forced displacement processes. Our support not only aims to respond to immediate emergencies. It also seeks to strengthen: Dignity and emotional well-being; Safety and security; Community integration; and Economic autonomy. The ability to rebuild life projects in safer and more welcoming environments.

Because behind every statistic there is a woman seeking to start over, in that sense the Jesuit Refugee Service Mexico seeks to accompany processes where women living in a complex situation are resilient and authors of their own stories, supported and strengthened.
