Challenge

Rabondo, a rural village in southwestern Kenya, has a population of over 7,000, communities looking to Rabondo, more than 2,000. The market is a distance of 10 miles of rough dirt road; the closest city 40 miles. There is minimal primary and secondary education and no adult education. The cost to access the internet and thus the rest of the world is more than a day’s wage for most; the need to expand knowledge for growth and development is critical; many services now require internet access.

Solution

A sustainable center for instruction, internet access, and other technology services will provide area community members information to improve farms, health care, curriculum, connection to the world; certificate and degree programs offered on line.

Long-Term Impact

An educated population can understand and participate in the governing of their families and their country. Knowledge provides power, confidence, dignity and hope for all. Local access strongly impacts women whose empowerment is revolutionary.
