Digital Transformation Project in Burundi

The Digital Transformation Project aims to bridge the digital divide across Burundi by equipping 15 public schools—one in each of the remaining provinces—with modern ICT labs and by providing comprehensive ICT training for 300 teachers. Each ICT lab will be equipped with 20 computers, enabling teachers and students to access quality digital learning resources and enhance educational outcomes through technology integration.

Project Objectives

1. Empower Educators: Provide ICT proficiency training for teachers and school administrators to integrate digital tools into teaching and learning processes.
2. Enhance Educational Resources: Increase the availability and use of online teaching and learning materials for both educators and students.
3. Foster Digital Innovation: Create opportunities for knowledge sharing, digital entrepreneurship, and the promotion of social values through the use of ICT and the internet.

Impact

• 300 teachers will gain practical ICT skills, enabling them to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms.
• 18,000 students and youths across Burundi will have access to ICT-enabled learning, empowering them with digital skills essential for social and economic development.
• The project contributes to the broader national goals of education quality improvement, digital inclusion, and youth empowerment.

Progress So Far

With the generous support of GlobalGiving and other sponsors, we have successfully:

• Equipped ECOFO Nyakabiga 3 (Bujumbura Province) with an ICT lab of 10 laptops.
• Installed an ICT lab with 10 laptops at Lycée Communal Gatabu (Muramvya Province).
• Provided 20 laptops to Lycée Regina Pacis (Gitega Province).
• Equipped the Homes of Hope Orphanage with 10 solar-powered laptops, connected to fiber optic internet for uninterrupted digital access.

From May to July, we conducted teacher ICT training sessions and school capacity-building initiatives, along with providing technical support for our partner schools nationwide.

We are continuing our resource mobilization efforts to reach all 15 target provinces. The Digital Transformation project aims to equip 15 public schools from 15 provinces of Burundi by equipping them with ICT Labs (equipped with 20 computers each) and providing training to 300 (three hundred) teachers with ICT skills on concepts of integrating ICT in teaching and learning. This will help in accelerating access to quality teaching and learning materials to bridge the digital gap in 15 remaining provinces of Burundi. Project Objectives is :a) To provide ICT user proficiency training to teachers and administrators and to enhance the digital transformation in teaching and learning in 15 schools of Burundi by guiding teachers on how to use ICT and the internet for teaching ,b) To increase the teaching and learning resources available online for teachers and students, c) To provide opportunities for exchange of knowledge, innovation, digital entrepreneurship, social values and expertise through sharing of online resources.

This project will help 300 (three hundred) teachers to acquire practical ICT skills that will contribute significantly to integration of ICT in teaching and learning. It will allow at least 18,000 youths to acquire practical ICT skills that will contribute significantly to advancing their social and economic status within Burundi and the African society. It will also make a positive contribution to social and economic development of Burundi.

With the support  via  GlobalGiving and other sponsors, we have already equipped  three schools  ( ECOFO NYAKABIGA 3 In Bujumbura provinces with ICT lab of 10 Laptops , Lycée Communal GATABU in MURAMVYA Province with ICT lab of 10 Laptops , Lycee Regina Pacis In gitega province with ICT lab of 20 Laptops and Homes of hope orphanage equipped with 10 laptops powered by solar energy and connected to fiber optic internet) for digital learning and Teaching purpose.

This year, we have conducted ICT training for teachers and capacity-building initiatives. Additionally, we have provided a series of technical support sessions for schools benefiting from our ICT labs across the country
