In the digitalized world, computer literacy has become a pre-requisite for education system along with job opportunities. The present government under Mr. Narendra Modi has also started National Digital Literacy Mission keeping in mind the growing demands. ALIG has been running its own digital literacy program for the women and girls but has not been able to cater to the growing demands because of lack of infrastructure. We propose to establish a center for more computers and equipment.
The area where the project would be based is very impoverished. The government schools do not have computer centers to provide digital literacy. Now government is digitizing the programs and initiatives, which our target group will not have access to, if they are not digitally literate. Since, we would be focusing on the drop out girls, in our interaction with them we have realized that majority of them do not know how to even start a computer, forget using one!
The project would encourage the girls participating in the programme to continue their education, moreover, digitally literate girls would be able to help their families in accessing the government entitlements. Digitally empowered girls would also mean, more aware and ready to claim their due. The programme would help in integration of the girls with their more aware counterparts.
One of the immediate impact, this project would have on the trainees would be that, it would help in bridging the digital divide and foster digital citizenship. This would also help in encouragement of learning interests amongst the trainees. This would also make the trainees employable and more job market worthy. The families of the trainees would be aware of the government schemes and programmes and in turn avail them.
