Dear Friend of DAR,
We cannot believe that we are almost half way through 2026, but we are excited to share with you all we have accomplished between January and May.
First, if you did not have a chance to read our 2025 Impact Report, here is a copy for you to review.
During the last 5 months your donations and support have allowed us to do the following:
Please continue reading for some highlights!

April Sterilization Camp
April was a very busy month. It was our first sterilization camp of the year and our small team sterilized 410 dogs!
We are now at a total of 746 dogs sterilized for the year, a 29% increase over last year at this time. If we continue on this pace, even with monsoon coming, we will surpass our goal of 1300 dogs—ending the suffering of even more dogs before it begins.
One of the main reasons we were able to achieve so much this month is our incredible head veterinarian, Dr. Shaheem (pictured above). He completed a record 272 sterilizations, while also diagnosing, creating treatment plans, and overseeing the recovery of 62 new rescues.
Please join us in sending him a well-deserved virtual thank you.

MEET BALOO
When Baloo's feeder called us, she was concerned. Large patches of fur had fallen out, and the fur on his face had become thick, matted, and clumped together.
After arriving at DAR, tests confirmed that the six-year-old street dog was suffering from sarcoptic mange, a painful skin disease that required immediate treatment and quarantine.
When Baloo first came to us, his condition was heartbreaking. But thanks to weeks of dedicated care, medicated baths, and treatment, his recovery has been remarkable.
Today, new fur has grown back, the infection has cleared, and Baloo has graduated from quarantine to join the other dogs in our shelter. While he still has a little healing left to do, he is friendly, comfortable, and well on his way to a full recovery.
Stories like Baloo's remind us what compassion can accomplish in just a few short weeks.

Even after years of work in Dharamsala, stabilizing the street dog population, decreasing rabies, and witnessing real improvements in the health and well-being of street dogs, we know that many people still do not like or trust them. And now we have the numbers to prove it.
In the past 8 months, 1,403 adults and children have participated in our programs. Here is what we found: most still dislike or fear street dogs, and most still do not know what to do if they are bitten.
What's more, of the few who do feed street dogs, many face harassment from others in their community for doing so.
{Watch video of community dog feeders speaking about the harassment they face}
What we know for certain is this: if we can continue to break down fear and hatred through education and outreach, dogs like sweet Lambu will not have to suffer.
We cannot thank you enough for helping us create a better and safer world for dogs and people in Dharamsala.
