“I never knew rabies was preventable. This session gave me confidence to spread awareness in my community.”
This sentence above was made during our Rabies Awareness & Dog Behavior Program at Himachal Pradesh University Regional Centre, Dharamshala to 139 students and 6 professors. Many agreed.
“This session made me realize dogs are not to be feared, but understood and cared for.”
This sentence above was made during our Book Reading & Storytelling Session on Compassion, Dog Behavior & Rabies Awareness at Tunna Book Cafe for 6 people.
After the recent Supreme Court rulings and ongoing clashes in Delhi and beyond between dog lovers and dog haters, one truth is clear: sterilization and rabies vaccination alone aren’t enough.
Generational myths and fears about street dogs echo through every group we visit. But with your support, we can change this story. By expanding our Community Outreach and Engagement programs, we can replace fear with facts and build compassion where there is misunderstanding
Thanks to your support, we were able to hire a Community Engagement Manager, Himani, who joined our Director, in addition to the programs above, on a radio show which will reach over 600,000 listeners. The two were interviewed and shared their knowledge on rabies awareness, safe interactions with street dogs, our upcoming Rabies Camp in September, and the power of adoption.
This is just the beginning. With your help, we can reach even more people, undo fear, and build a kinder, safer future for both dogs and humans.
Your compassion doesn’t just save dogs—it transforms communities. If you would like to learn how to support this effort, please reach out to me at any time!

STATS
May - August Stats & Highlights
Monsoon has been horrible this year. It started in early June and continues to cause landslides, floods, and destruction. To get a glimpse of what it looks like, please click here and view live footage from last week.
Monsoon has also wreaked havoc on our mud and stone buildings - pieces are falling off and falling apart. Our electrical wiring has been damaged, but we are making do. Once the rains stop, we will be able to assess the damage and see what is needed for all of the repairs.
Yet, even in the midst of all of this, our work hasn’t stopped. We are still rescuing dogs and running community programs—because they need us, rain or shine. One recent case is Pathan, the sweet German Shepherd pictured above. He came to us as an owned but neglected pet with a terrible ear wound crawling with hundreds of maggots. We couldn’t save his ear—but we saved him, thanks to your support. (Watch his rescue-to-recovery video here.)
As of today, our sterilization program has been on hold for over 2 months. We cannot run it during heavy rains - healing becomes an issue when it is so wet and damp. We truly hope this clears up soon, as we plan to start our annual 10-Day Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Camp on September 21st. Please wish us luck!
Here are our stats for May - Aug of 2025:
Sterilizations 241
Rabies Vaccinations 361
Rescues 184
Pet Cases 77
Total Treatments 4570
Community Program Attendees 188 (plus thousands of listeners)
None of this is possible without you!
Thank you so much for you faith in DAR.
