In India, menstrual equity is a significant concern, affecting women and girls' empowerment. Approximately 23% of adolescent girls drop out of school due to a lack of menstrual hygiene facilities and awareness. Additionally, only about 36% of menstruating women have access to sanitary pads.
The Desai Foundation is actively addressing these challenges through programs that provide support and resources. We focus on comprehensive health and hygiene, with an emphasis on menstrual health education and access to sanitary products.
Furthermore, we offer livelihood opportunities for women, including vocational and entrepreneurial training, to enhance their economic independence and contribution to society.
During January and February:
Promoting Awareness of Menstrual Hygiene:
Over the past two months, our menstrual hygiene awareness camps have touched the lives of an astounding 90,057 women and girls. Through these initiatives, we are actively nurturing positive attitudes and behaviors regarding menstrual health. By imparting essential knowledge and challenging the stigma surrounding menstruation, we are breaking down barriers.
With your unwavering support, we have distributed a remarkable 53,556 free Asani sanitary napkins. This distribution ensures that women and girls have access to sanitary products that are both hygienic and affordable. The provision of these pads has played a significant role in removing obstacles that hinder women's education, productivity, and overall well-being.
Empowering Women through Skill Development:
Through our comprehensive vocational training programs, we've equipped women with essential skills and knowledge. During this period, we made a positive impact on 448 individuals through sewing classes, offering them valuable skills that enhance their employability and entrepreneurial prospects. Additionally, 327 women underwent beauty parlor training, enabling them to manage their own businesses and attain financial independence. Furthermore, 1,233 individuals gained proficiency in computer skills, expanding their access to opportunities in the digital realm.
Our Career Guidance Program has left a lasting impact on 1,129 individuals, and our Entrepreneur Development Training has benefited 329 participants, all contributing to empowering women across our communities.
