Last September 15th on the anniversary of Mexico’s Independence an outdoor fair was held at our Day Center to commemorate the event.
The young people had fun, ate, played and danced big time. All could enjoy the fun Mexican games: snakes and ladders, potato sack races, pin the tail on the donkey, spinning tops and other attractions. The favorite activity of the afternoon was Bingo with appearances by the mermaid, the barrel and the ladder.
We all enjoyed a very Mexican menu with the traditional and tasty pozole along with fresh fruit drinks. Mangos and jicama with chile powder were put out and the youngsters quickly got in line to try them with lime and salt. Desserts were part of the get together including rice pudding and Mexican candies.
So the afternoon was spent in laughter, with good company and the happiness generated by being part of a community that cares about children, young people and their families’ rights to recreation and celebration.
