Hello from Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel is in their "high season" which is when the island has the most tourists, from mid-December through April. The highlight for the locals is the Mardi Gras which is fun for both children and adults as participants and spectators. One consequence for the young spectators is the people on the floats throw LOTS of candy to them. Although they love eating it, if they don't brush and floss, the candy will create tooth decay.
Soulgives continues to promote proper eating and drinking habits to the children, and provide dental packets when we can afford them.
We have a new local dentist helping us to talk to the kids, and at his suggestion we are contacting Cozumel churches, especially ones in the lower-income areas, to host a workshop.
We are so thankful for your past support, and hope you will consider another contribution or asking your friends and family to help.
Since the Mexican government does not provide dental care as part of their social health program, many kids, and especially those from the working class, do not ever receive dental instruction. We hope you'll continue to support us to change that.
Sincerely,
Gary Scheirman
