This project will provide vital legal aid, psychological support, and public advocacy to defend over 5,000 LGBTI+ individuals in Paraguay against discrimination and violence, fostering a more inclusive and democratic society.
Paraguay is one of the most conservative and hostile countries in South America for LGBTI+ people. There are no laws protecting against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and hate crimes are prevalent but vastly underreported due to fear and institutional neglect. LGBTI+ individuals, particularly transgender people and youth, face systemic exclusion from employment, healthcare, and education, pushing many into poverty and vulnerability.
This project will tackle the problem through a multi-faceted approach: Legal Aid, to operate a free legal clinic to provide counsel and representation to victims of discrimination and violence. Psychological Support, to offer individual and group therapy sessions led by professionals trained in trauma-informed care. Advocacy & Awareness, to run campaigns to challenge stereotypes and promote inclusion. Emergency Support, to maintain a 24/7 helpline and provide first-care assistance.
The long-term impact of this project is the creation of a safer, more equitable, and democratic Paraguay for all its citizens. By systematically defending rights and changing public perception, we will empower the LGBTI+ community to live openly and without fear. Success will be measured by a measurable decrease in violence reports, the passage of anti-discrimination laws, and increased societal acceptance.
