Goats and Donkeys Transform Lives in Darfur

The situation in Darfur remains deeply concerning, as the people there continue to endure conflict, displacement, and now devastating heavy rains. Families in remote villages are doing their best to survive, relying on the land to grow food. However, the violence has prevented them from planting crops, and the recent flooding has only made their already fragile situation even worse.

With banks closed across the country and inflation spiralling out of control—some items have surged by 300%—people are facing an immense struggle to meet their basic needs. Many children are surviving on just one small meal a day, while many adults are managing on only one meal every two or three days. Disturbingly, this often consists of assida, similar to porridge, which provides only carbohydrates, leading to severe malnutrition. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has declared a famine in Darfur this month.

But, thanks to your support, in the midst of these overwhelming challenges, you have helped us find a way to help. We cannot thank you enough. We are profoundly grateful to our dedicated volunteers who, despite all obstacles, have managed to deliver and distribute Emergency Seeds and Kids Kitchen Kits to six of our villages. These kits, containing vital staples like sorghum and millet, as well as lentils, ground nuts, and cooking oil, are being delivered to Azagarfa, Abu Diegeis, Um Ajaja, Lawabid, Um Hagalig, and Tartoura Berkat in North Darfur. This immediate relief is crucial for mothers who are struggling to feed their starving children. These sacks not only provide emergency food but also seeds that must urgently be planted if families are to have any hope of a harvest next year.

These Kitchen Kits are life-changing for the health of the children, and as soon as Goats are available in the markets again, we will also include Goat’s milk, which is so essential for their nutrition. Our Goats are nothing short of miracle workers!

This is just a start— this is only six villages out of the 110 we are striving to help. The need is truly overwhelming.
