Daraja Educational Empowerment Project is part of the Organization's programmes targeting basic education needs for the orphans and vulnerable children in pre primary, primary and secondary schools in Alego Usonga Sub County, Siaya County Kenya. The project will pay school fees for 50 needy students in secondary schools, buy uniform for 60 pupils in primary schools and, equip the Early Childhood Classrooms at Hills Merchant School with desks and chairs for 40 children.
Siaya County in Western Kenya is one of the counties with a high population of orphans and vulnerable children. These Children live with caregivers, mostly grand parents who do not have reliable sources of income. This project targets 150 children who are unable to afford basic requirements to keep them in school. The project will mainly focus on secondary school children lacking school fees, uniform and stationery for primary school children , desks and chair for Hills Merchant ECD School.
Daraja Educational Empowerment Project will pay school fees for needy pupils in secondary school to allow them stay in school, provide uniform to primary school needy children and equip the Organization's pre- primary school with furniture for the children enrolled in the program.
The project targets 150 orphans and vulnerable children. It aims at ensuring that children acquire basic education which will open for them different career pathways. This will reduce the problem of school dropouts and the negative impacts that this has like early marriages, drug and substance abuse and youth unemployment among others.
