Project Elimu is very Grateful for the floor face-lift renovation to make it more child friendly and safe for our beneficiaries. As with the rest of the World, the impact of COVID-19 in Kenya stretched and disrupted our activities, However, Four wonderful things are happening at our space; 1. Started our dancing sessions though in small groups of 20 girls due to COVID 19 government restrictions and guidelines in our country. 2. The space is being used by our Menstrual Health Initiative program called the Smile Bank focused on addressing the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRH) as well as problems faced by Adolescent girls and young women in the informal settlements of Nairobi during their menstruation. The project empowers the Adolescent girls and young women with information and education o their reproductive health and rights as well as the provision of dignity kits such as sanitary towels. The SRH education and information equips the AGYW with problem-solving skills to some of the common challenges they face within their community. 3. We are starting out a new fundraiser to sustain our Arts program for 2021, we will keep you posted for the exact dates. 4. Our space is also being used for various communities based activities like COVID 19 related training in Nairobi County targeting local leaders for the mitigation and prevention measures of COVID 19 spread in our communities as well as food distribution by project Elimu. In summary, space has been very instrumental and sealed gaps experienced by other stakeholders, partners and us Project Elimu unlike previously anticipated to be used for dance sessions only. From Project Elimu we recognize and appreciate the donations and walking with us during this period as we look forward to future engagement s and support. Find attached a short dance video by the girls from Project Elimu Senior dance group.
Greetings from Project Elimu. We trust you are all keeping safe during this global pandemic and are staying at home and taking all the necessary precautions to stay safe.
We have great news! Our dance floor project is now complete. We are so happy with the kindness and generosity we got from our supporters and well wishers. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who donated and made it possible for us to build a proper dance floor for the Kibera ballet dancers.
We are touched by the generosity of everyone who donated. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the people in Kibera. We could not accomplish our goals without the support, involvement and enthusiasm of our donors, well-wishers and volunteers.
Kindly go through the attached document for a visual report of the dance floor project.
Greetings from Kibera Ballet Dancers. We want to say thank you to our donors; both individuals and corporations who made the work possible. Thank you for believing in the difference dance can make and for supporting our efforts to build a proper dance floor for the kibera ballet dancers.
Our campaign: Dance Floor for Kibera Ballet Dancers was successful with a lot of people showing support and donating for the cause. We held our annual performance on 14th December in Kibera where our Kibera Ballet Dancers did a wonderful peformance to the audience to show the unseen side of the slums and the potential that these children have despite their harsh living conditions. The annual performance also served as a fundraiser to help reach our target for the dance floor project and to also get word out there on what we do by getting people who support us come to Kibera to see for themselves the beauty of the slums.
Plans are currently underway to build a temporary moveable dance floor in our center here in Kibera. Temporary because we're currently on a rented space and want to be able to move with the floor when we relocate to our own space. We've identified suppliers, contractors and designers for the new dance floor. We plan to start construction towards the end of January and we hope it's going to take approximately one month to get everything in order and to complete the construction. We will share photos of before and after.
Lastly we want to thank you all for your support. We will now be able to fulfill our mission and to nurture a community of young ballet dancers from the slums by providing a better training facility.
